Report of the RRRLF Sponsored National Conference on Evolving Role of Libraries and Librarianship on Jan 22 & 23, 2016



Raja Rammohun Roy Foundation, Kolkatta, Ministry of Culture, Government of India  sponsored National Conference on Evolving Role of Libraries and Librarianship was conducted at the premises of Sri Sarada College for Women, Tirunelveli . On the First day the Programme started with Aarathi , Lighting the lamp and prayer at 10.00 a.m. Smt. S. Gomathy, Librarian, SSC, Tvl gave the Welcome Address. The gathering was blessed by the College Administrator, Bhakthananda Swamiji. The College Secretary Yatiswari Saravanabhavapriya Ambaji gave the inaugural address which was followed by felicitation address by Dr. Malarvizhi, Principal, SSC, Tvl. Major.Prof.P. Chandrasekaran, Academic Director, SSC, Tvl  gave a note on Conference Dynamics.  The Honorable Chief Guest Dr. Elavazhagan, Indian Institute of Management, Tiruchirappalli presented the Keynote Address. The Presidential Address was given by Dr. A. Thirumagal, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli. Dr. S. Ravikumar North Eastern Hill University gave the felicitation Address. The Inaugural Function thus ends with the Vote of thanks by B. Vijayalakshmi, former Librarian, SSC, Tvl.  After a Tea Break.Our Chief Guest Dr. K. Elavazhagan, Chief Knowledge Officer, IIM, Trichy gave his lecture on Polluting the Scholarly, publishing ecosystem by predatory publishers.
The First Technical Session for the day was started which was chaired by Dr. R.R. Saravanakumar, Librarian, Sadak Abdhullah College, Tirunelveli. Co-Chaired by Dr. I. Ravikumar Kennedy, Librarian, St John's College, Tirunelveli and the Rapporteur was Dr. S. Balachandran, Librarian, Thiruvalluvar College, Papanasam. Three papers were presented during the session.
In the Second Technical Session, the chair person was Dr. K. Ramasamy, Librarian, V S Sivalimgam Govt. Arts College, Pulankurichi, Sivagangai. Co-chair person was Dr. Siva Subramanian. The Rapporteur was Dr. P. Renuka, Librarian, Sri Parasakthi College, Courtrallam.  Five papers were presented during this session.
The Second day of the conference opened with the commanding lecture on "Libraries in North America: Present and Future Trends Meeting Information Needs by Dr. Susan W Alman, San Jose State University, California via online. This session was great to have a resource person from another country within our Conference Hall. Video, Audio & Power  Point presentation were available at a time.
Dr. A. Thirumagal, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli delivered a invited lecture on publication productivity of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University - A Biblio-metric Study and Open Access Resources.  
The Thrid Technical Session was started which was chaired by Dr. K. Murugan. Co-chaired by Smt. N. Renuka. Assistant Professor & Head, Department of English, Rapporteured by K. Punithavathi, Equatorial Geophysical Research Laboratory, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Tirunelveli  Three papers were presented in this session.
In the fourth technical session, the chair person was Dr. S. Balasubramanian, the Co-Chair person is  Dr. M. Jeyaprakash, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Periyar University, Salem. The Rapporteur was A.Rani, Sri Sarada College of Education, Tirunelveli. Four papers were presented in this session.
The fifth technical session was chaired by Dr.V.R.Rajan, Research Guide, Amet University, Chennai. Co-chair person was J. Arumugam, TCS, Chennai, Rapporteur was Dr S. Kopperundevi., Veterinary College, Tirunelveli. Ten papers were presented in this session.
We have received more than 77 papers and twenty five papers were presented orally. The Conference came to an end with the Valedictory Function. S. Gomathy welcomed the guests. Major. Prof. P. Chandrasekaran gave the valedictory address. Participant Certificates were issued to the delegates by Administrator, Secretary & Principal. Vote of Thanks was proposed by B.Vijayalakshmi. The conference came to an end with the National Anthem.
