About the Seminar:

Information explosion in the internet & availability of the E-Resources is increasing every day. The main objective of this seminar is to create awareness of the E-Resources & to enhance the professional development especially on Digital Skills. It aims at providing a forum for learning & exchanging ideas & knowledge among Librarians & Academicians.

About The College:

“The only service to be given is to give… that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own leg”. So goes the emphatic message of Swami Vivekananda. Inspired by this ideal, Swami Chidbhavananda, the great saint, seer and savant, widely known for the power and depth of his spirituality, founded Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Trichy.

Among the seven colleges run by Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Sri Sarada College , Tirunelveli was started in 1986 to cater to the educational needs of the women of the southern districts of the Tamil Nadu. The college was started with 60 students in 3 UG courses. Now the college has grown to students’ strength of 1053 with 9 UG courses, 3 PG Courses & one PG Diploma Course. This year, we are celebrating 25th Silver Jubilee Year of our College.

The Library:

Library plays a very important role in any educational institution. As an educational institution fully committed to the imparting of knowledge, our college started its acquisition of books from 1986 onwards. A fully qualified librarian was appointed in 1987, ever since which the library has been growing steadily in quality and quantity.

Books are classified according to Dewey Decimal classification. We are using Delplus software, for Automation of Library.

Apart from the main library called as Sarada Library, we have separate departmental libraries catering to the needs of post graduate students of M.C.A., M.Com (C.A.) M.Sc. Maths and also Book bank books, Specimen copy books for each department.

Resources:

We have special collection of 4 Vedas, Sanskrit books, subject dictionaries, Gazetteers, Lexicons, encyclopedias and competitive exam books.

Total Number of Books - More than 24,500

Total Number of Journals - 26

Total Number of Magazines - 55

Total Number of Book Bank Books - 1594

Total Number of Specimen Copy Books - 938

Library Networks:

Member of Delnet - Developing Library Network.

Services:

Students are enjoying open Access system in the library. An average of 60 students is visiting library daily. 50 extension, 12 issues, 10 return are the average numbers of book circulation per day. We are providing the following services to our students. Reference Service, Referral Service, Current Awareness Service, Clipping Service, Circulation Service.







Certificate Course:

Certificate Course in library science is one of the various certificate courses in the College. In this course, they are learning about the subject, library activities and they do the assignment.
