National Symposium on “Understanding the role of Citation, Impact Factors & Copyright in Research Publications” on Feb 14, 2014

             National Symposium on Understanding the Role of Citation, Impact Factors & Copyright in Research Publications was organised be Sarada Library of Sri Sarada College for Women, Tirunelveli on February 14, 2014. The Symposium began with prayer song & the welcome address was delivered by Selvi B.Vijayalakshmi, Librarian, SSC, TVL. Blessings were given by Swami Bhakthananda Swamiji and our Yatiswari Saravanabhavapriya Amba, Secretary, SSC, TVL. Minutes of previous meeting was read by Selvi Siva Shunmuga Priya, Library Student Joint Secretary, III Computer Science, SSC, TVL. The function was Inaugurated by Dr.M.Malarvizhi, Principal, SSC, TVL. The Felicitation Address was given by Smt.V.Raja Rajeswari, NAAC Coordinator,Head, Dept of Chemistry, SSC, TVL, Smt. C.Hema, Librarian, The Madura College, Madurai. Sri Dr K.Elazvalagan, Chief Knowledge Officer, Indian Institute of Management, Trichy has delivered the Keynote Address. Vote of Thanks has given by Smt.R.Muthulakshmi, Vice Principal, Head, Dept of Commerce, SSC, TVL. First Session was handled by Dr.K.Elazvalagan, IIM, Trichy. It covers Plagiarism, IPR and Copyright Issues. Second Session Best Practices for Effective Academic Communication was handled by Sri V.Vimalkumar, Technical Assistant, Mahathma Gandhi University, Kottayam. And Third Session  Citation Analysis & Its Tools was 

 

handled by Smt.C.Hema, Librarian, The Madura College, Madurai. The valedictory function welcome address was given by Dr.S.Parvatha Krishnammal, Head, Dept of Tamil. Valedictory Address was given by Smt.C.Hema, Librarian, The Madura College, Madurai. Feed back was given by the Participants, Dr.S.Saravanakumar, Librarian, SadakAppadullah College, Tirunelveli, Dindugul Health Officer, Sivanthi Athithanar College Chemistry Professor. Certificates were given by  Dr.M.Malarvizhi, Principal, SSC, TVL. Vote of Thanks was given by S.Dhanalakshmi, Library Student Secretary. Group Photo was taken. Arumugaselvi, Subbalakshmi Essaki, Haritha, Yalizhi II B.A.English Students were the master of ceremonies. 15 Participants were participated in our Symposium. Symposium ends with College song & Santhi Prayer.

About The College:
            “The only service to be given is to give… that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded and by which one can stand on one’s own leg”. So goes the emphatic message of Swami Vivekananda. Inspired by this ideal, Swami Chidbhavananda, the great saint, seer and savant, widely known for the power and depth of his spirituality, founded Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Trichy.
            Among the seven colleges run by Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Sri Sarada College, Tirunelveli was started in 1986 to cater to the educational needs of the women of the southern districts of the Tamil Nadu. The college was started with 60 students in 3 UG courses. Now the college has grown to students’ strength of 1200 with 9 UG courses & 3 PG Courses.
             Our College is accredited “B Grade” - CGPA 2.76 out of 4 by NAAC. Our college is publishing “Pragnavani”, the Multi Disciplinary Research Journal with ISSN No 2249 – 6017.

            Sarada Library has the collection of 26,541 books, 56 magazines, 36 Journals. Our Library is automated with Delplus Software. We have been member of Delnet & NList. Library has organized International Workshop, National Conference, State Level Seminar & Guest Lecture Programmes, Digital Literacy Programmes for Students & Key to Open Access Resources, NList Awareness programme for Our Staff.

Programme on Digital Literacy

       Sarada Library has organised "Digital Literacy Programme" for our students on 06/12/2013. The Librarian has explained with power point presentation for two hours.The slides are focused on Group mails, Blogs, Photo sharing, Social networks, Information Searching, Browsing, You tube. This will give them good insight on these topics. Secretary Yatiswari Saravanabhavapriya Amba, Principal Dr.Smt.M.Malarvizhi Mam supported & encouraged this programme.

Librarian Day Celebration

             We have celebrated Librarian Day in our College on 30/08/2013 with various programmes. Students enacted 4 skits in the basic concept of Reading Habit &how the reading habit helps to improve the lives of great personalities, the role of books in great personalities life. Students enjoyed the programme. Open Quiz is also organised for all students. All questions are based on Library Resources & Services. So that non users also came to know about the Library. Prizes were given by the Secretary.
